As an adult learning English can be a very scary proposition for most people. I know that I would not be very confident and would not be very successful if I was trying to learn the Croatian language, just ask some of my students. In both of my classes I had a few who were timid and as a result did not come for the "test".
On Saturday I had the honor to get to have coffee with one of those women at a corner cafe. It was very nice, afterward she showed me her house and then she visited John and Lois Stefan's house. I had a great time and I hope she did also, I know she wants to take English again and get better at speaking the language.
In the afternoon, we traveled to Zazina to have lunch with Slovic and his wife Sonya. One the way there we stopped to take photos of the buildings used in the movie "The Fiddler on the Roof." There are some very rustic looking places still standing all over the country. As well as some from the war with artillery damage. Slavek prepared a wonderful bar-b-que of hamburgers, sausage, pork, and chicken and his wife prepared 2 different salads. It was all very tasty! His yard and the area around his house was very lovely, he has tons of grapes growing! (don't stop at the photos)
After visiting with Slavek and his wife we went to Stana
Perković’s
home. There we met with the other team that was teaching English in another
part of Croatia, and the Bjerks. Don, Michael, and Emma left on Sunday to
return to the US. Stana prepared a great soup and a salad with some wonderful
garlic dressing.
On Sunday, we packed the van that Jovica Sucura was
so willing to bring to help us travel to Karlovac with all our bags of luggage.
The drive over was beautiful. We are staying at the home of Ladislav and Melanija Ružička, he is the pastor of the church here in Karlovac. We attended church in the evening. After the service we had a wonderful light meal.
There was a celebration in the center of town that we attended with lots of music, acting, and singing. Then at midnight there were fireworks to celebrate Croatia joining the European Union or EU! On July 1, 2013 Croatia officially became a part of the EU! (more to follow past the photos)

Now it is time to begin focusing on the next task, teaching English to the students here in Karlovac. I am going to be teaching the reading lesson so I get the privilege of reading and sharing God’s Word more this time. I will get to meet all of the students more than I did during the other classes. I hope to be able to get to know them all. God knows who He wants to be here and He knows who He wants us to have contact with, so please pray that we will move according to His will and be an example of His love and grace. Thanks for reading this blog, God bless you all!
